Murray’s is super harsh. I would suggest not using it lol They make shampoo specifically for pomade. You can try “DAX Vegetable Oil shampoo”. I’ve also heard massaging the hair with olive oil, then shampooing with dish soap gets it out.
I use Sweet Georgia Brown (red can). It’s milder, has good hold, good shine, doesn’t stay too long in my hair after washes, and doesn’t pull my hair when I comb. It’s my favorite pomade but a bit expensive compared to others. I don’t know if he just started using pomade but I would suggest for him to try out others, check reviews, and find the right one for him. Murray’s is usually what most guys start off with. It’s classic, cheap and has super hold but you pay for it lol
